Scalers are used SUPRAGINGIVALLY but at times, may be inserted into a gingival pocket 1mm
below the gum margin. As compared to
curettes which are area specific, Scalers enjoy a bit of versatility that these can be used anywhere in the mouth where exploration of calculus and removal of debris is indicated.
